The Straw Breath also known as Sheetali Breath is my favorite tool in my calming toolbox. Here’s how:
Breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth through softly pursed lips as if you are breathing through a straw.
When we make our mouths into the straw shape we slow down the amount of breath leaving our body. When we slow our breath, we slow our mind.
The beauty of this breath is you can do it anywhere, with your eyes open and most people will not even notice you are powerfully shifting your state of being.
I practice it in traffic all the time. Or if I feel myself getting agitated.
