Modeling my Food from Breastmilk
Our first form of nourishment is balanced and complete.
And the body makes it.
The human body is miraculous.
It doesn’t make mistakes. Each time my daughter breastfeeds she gets a complete nourishment structure from one breast. Each breast will give her hydrating milk first and then milk with more fat and protein. This ensures my daughter is hydrated and nourished with fat, carbs, protein…everything that she needs.
I emulate this in my meals. When I eat, I prioritize having balanced meals of protein, fat, carb, and fiber. I no longer have sugar alone. I will have something sweet after I have already had my full spectrum of nourishment. This ensures my blood sugar remains stable. I have found this to be my most important tool in managing my mental health.
Of course as we mature we need more robust nourishment though I think the structure of breastmilk can provide a great structure to model for how we nourish ourselves.
As someone who has struggled with giardia, IBS, dysentary, bulimia, anorexia and mental health disorders I understand how confusing and overwhelming food choice can be.
I now prioritize eating full balanced ensembles of food when I eat. I will continue to share meals and snacks I prepare to nourish myself and my family.
On April 26, I am teaching a Masterclass called Nourish where I will teach you all the nuggets I have learned from over a decade of intense self study including working with the top gut experts and reading the latest research.
