Soften your Body & Release your Psoas

The psoas muscle connects your legs to your spine. The health of the psoas is crucial for integrated movement.

Most people’s are tight.

Most people don’t feel anything releasing during the release. For a great before and after, lie with your back on the floor and your legs straight out. Observe how your body feels. After this practice lie back on the floor and notice how you feel.

Here’s my favorite way to release the psoas.

Place a bolster long ways on the floor,

Lie down on a bolster laying long ways with your bra line resting on the short end of the rectangle bolster. Only your head and upper back are supported on the bolster. The rest of the body is on the floor. Put a half roller or a rolled up blanket under the neck and straighten the legs. Stay here for a few minutes and completely relax. No need to multitask here. Relax and let yourself be held.

Stay in this position for around 3 minutes and then slide yourself down off the bolster just a little bit and stay here for around 3 minutes. So incrementally you will be lowering down until your whole body is on the floor.

I aim to melt into this practice daily for at least 10 minutes. It’s been 4 weeks since I learned how to do this, and damn has it changed my physicality. My husband and mom occasionally do it with me and immediately feel lighter in their bodies.

My first trip to my new chiropractor was the same week I learned how to and started releasing my psoas daily. The first time I went, my chiropractor tested my psoas and it was weak and tight, like most peoples. 3 weeks later I returned and she was impressed with my entire muscle tone including the strength and length of my psoas.

I learned this from Lauren O’hayon in her program Restore Your Core. It’s amazing. I highly recommend especially for anyone who has been pregnant or interested in ever being pregnant.

I am also practicing with Adelaide Meadow in her program Strength Training for the Female Body and it is great. After every workout I feel more integrated, confident, and sexy.
