Trust your gut Mama. I changed my diet and my daughter’s rash went away
Last Thursday I was laying in the hammock with my 9 months old daughter on my lap and I was looking at the intense rash on her chest, back, and neck. Feeling a deep sense of weight.
Asking myself, what am I doing wrong?
As a human and mom I know part of my curriculum here for my time on Earth is realizing that I have done nothing wrong. I get to return to the preciousness of this moment. Release the grip and just be.
For the past few months my daughter has had rashes along her chest and back and I tried calendula, more moisture, less moisture, time in no clothes and nothing seemed to help.
The pediatrician recommended a steroid cream. The doctor didn’t ask about my diet, her diet, or factors that could be contributing to the rash. I know we are resilient and robust beings. I also know our body is brilliant. I am not interested in putting a cream on my daughter that may help the rash go away but then she will be dependent on the cream. The rash isn’t the issue. It’s a symptom.
As the hammock was swinging and I was feeling the responsibility of being a Mom, it clicked. 4 years ago while living in South Carolina I developed rashes all along my arms and chest. It was really painful and itchy. It would get way worse when I would eat gluten. So I stopped eating gluten and it went away. A few years ago I introduced gluten back in and I didn’t have any problems.
The rashes my daughter had a similar location and had a similar feeling to me. Her rash is the worst it’s ever been and I have been eating more gluten then normal. So I stopped eating gluten and my intuition said to cut sugar too. So I did.
By the evening of the next day I could see her rash was a lot less red. On the second day most of the visible raised skin had gone down. By the third day all the redness was gone. And I am writing this on the fifth day of me eating no sugar or gluten while breastfeeding my daughter. Her rash is gone, there is just remnants of dry skin.
I am relieved. I am impressed with my own resolve. And I don’t know what the future holds in terms of diet, allergies, and irritants.
What I do know is that a Mother’s Intuition is like a superpower.
Now I’m going to love on my gut and strengthen the integrity of my gut and allow the effects to be the same for my daughter. If you have any experience with gut inteigrity or eczema I would love to hear from you!
